Dandia to Disco
Today when I hear the morning raga being replaced with the rapping songs like "Char Botal Votka, Kam Mera Roj Ka" as an energizer song for GEN-X which hits the chart No.1,I suddenly am reminded that "KNOCK---KNOCK" this is the changed India which has defined itself as a unique strata which is unmoved by criticism of being careless souls in the society.
I am reminded of my childhood days 2 decades back when the morning started at 4.00 a.m in the morning after touching the feet of the parents and the gods/godesses before starting on with some maths assignment within the serene environment of the morning. Today, I can hear parents discussing about the competitive pressure since the age of 5-10yrs itself where the sleeping time of the kids have moved to 3.00a.m in the morning .Parents remind them that if they want to be engineers/ doctors or get admission to colleges like St.Stephens etc. they need to score more than 99% cut off in their Class 12 th Examinations. The preparation starts from the early preschool with focus more on competitive attitude, agility, communication etc which were not the priority few decades back as childhood was all about swaying carelessly and freely amidst the breeze of closely monitored freedom from the parents/guardian and the school.
Where a single National Channel "Doordarshan "happened to be the lifeline of the country where Lord Rama and Lord Krishna use to come on every Sunday on our Black and White TV Set to bless the life of millions.I could see uncle/aunt asking their kids to fold hand as Lord Rama has appeared on time at 9.00 a,m to bless them. Thanks to then "Electricity Board" who too realized the sentiments of the people and allowed the perfect Darshan to happen whereas today despite Mohit Rena impeccable appearance as Lord Shiva on our Colored LCD Screen hasn't slightly moved the adversity of the power cut which has created a severe protest through out the country.
Just reminded that time has changed and so has been the resources along with the sentiments of the people w.r.t the philosophy, ideologies, mythology and "CULTURE".
CULTURE today stands for " Crumble Under Limited Torture & Unattended Religious Exile" .
Generation today celebrates Republic Day,26th Jan,15th Aug,Durga Puja etc as all as an eve to mark the "HOLIDAY " in their Calendar so that the trip with the family/friends can be planned and finalized. How many children of today can sing our national anthem rightly or can differentiate between National Anthem and National Song?
With passing years those definitions for the country, religion, family values, song, dance etc has transformed from the long emotional corridors to the much short lived era of hypocrisy and materialism where Science &Technology
defines the Start and End; from Love Life to Lost Life; from Devotion to Absenteeism giving rise to the conflicts in all walks of life w.r.t materialistic happiness which in another word can be termed as a "bubble moment".
Today, amidst the fast life we have adopted the " Lollipop approach" to satisfy the parental satisfaction of our loving parents through "Father's Day" or "Mother's Day" while these bonds have been traditionally considered to be eternal with reminder setup on daily basis .Likewise"Valentine Day" again is the gift of the western civilization to the aspiring Indians who have gradually lost their attention towards their loved ones in all senses as their priority calendar is setup for 8.00p.m dinner with the client with a home drop to the lady boss way back home in lieu of a better appreciation in the new financial year.
Overall , what I wanted to clarify is that there is a big erosin of traditional virtues which has rippled away the basics of our Great Indian Culture and tradition which had been attracting the great saints, sages and philosophers across the globe from time immemorial.
What can we do to glorify our rich culture and tradition??
